Glow in the Dark Jellies by Bompas & Parr

Glow in the Dark Jellies by Bompas & Parr

Posted 04 October 2009 | By Julie | Categories: art, food | No Comments

Bompas & Parr creates the world’s first glow-in-the-dark jellies after working in tandem with Dr Andrea Sella from UCL Department of Chemistry. To make the jelly glow in the dark, food-safe quinine is included as an ingredient and blacklights in the service area cause this to fluoresce. The invisible ultraviolet light from the “black lights” is absorbed by the quinine which then re-emits bluish light at the edge of the visible spectrum, making the jellies appear to glow in the dark.

The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers “Galerie der Gegenwart”. Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.

Named as the first skate video to be filmed entirely in HD. Directed by Jon Humphries and Jason Hernandez, Debacle was filmed by Hernandez, Joey Ruiz, and Chris Middlebrook, who followed the youngest members of the SB team (Daryl Angel, David Clark, Shane O’Neill, Theotis Beasley, Justin Brock, and Grant Taylor) to 10 countries over the past 10 months. The video is set to a soundtrack that matches the intensity and vigor of the young crew’s skating (featuring Bad Brains, Skid Row, and The Replacements). The free stream and download of Debacle will be available on http://www.nike.com/nikeskateboarding/debacle until July 24th. The Blu-ray disc is now available at SB retailers worldwide.

Free and environmentally friendly energy forever and ever. The Soil Lamp runs on mud. The metabolism of biological life produces enough electricity to keep a LED lamp burning. Amazing!

This modular unit can easily be joined without the use of specific tools, to make a bookshelf, a table, a chair or a separating unit. Very nice.

Subway Art Gallery Opening

Posted 19 March 2009 | By Connie | Categories: art | No Comments

50 Improv Everywhere agents created an art gallery opening on the 23rd Street subway platform in Manhattan. We put up 30 placards next to objects in the space (pipes, electrical boxes, signs, advertisements), transforming them into works of art. The gallery included a bar, a coat rack, and a cellist. Enjoy the video first, and then continue reading for photos, text from our placards, and reports from the agents involved.
