Two big advantages to working out from home are cost and convenience. Home exercise programs typically can be done anywhere, anytime.
However, many aerobics videos, jump rope and even calisthenics like jumping jacks are high impact. If you have bad knees, a painful back or are trying to recover from an injury, these workouts aren’t easy on the joints. They simply won’t give you any benefits.
Check out this video here. It includes an entire body workout that is low impact and doesn’t require any additional equipment. Best of all – you can watch it online for free right now.
Don’t be deceived – low impact workouts aren’t necessarily easy. Many programs will involve engaging the core, which not only burns calories but can improve posture, relieve lower back pain and even get you out of breath.
This next video focuses on building core strength. It also doesn’t require additional equipment, and you can do it at home. It runs about 30 minutes, so you can get a good strength-building and stretching routine before you go into the office in the morning or in the evening while you are watch TV.
Another idea is the Sunny Health & Fitness Mini Stepper with Resistance Bands. I actually have one of these. For such a simple-looking device, it’s surprising good at helping to improve balance in addition to giving your arms a great workout.
The steppers themselves don’t go very high, so it’s easier than climbing a bunch of stairs. However, it’s a great machine for using in front of the TV or while you are talking on the phone – plus it’s light enough that you can pick it up and carry it anywhere.
Regularly moving your body in a variety of different movements will help keep your body more flexible and joints fluid. Sitting all day at a desk or poor sleeping positions can make a significant impact on your body over time. Simply moving more can work wonders. Just try it!
